Tavern Na Kantunu is already well known to every citizen of Rijeka. Whether you decide to go for brunch or maybe for dinner, you won't go wrong - you will taste fresh fish that they prepare very well. The tavern is located next to Rječina and, according to its name, on the corner of the building or as the locals say - on the canton. The hall itself is quite large, decorated in a real, rustic style with a dose of elegance. The walls are decorated with bricks and the owner's paintings, and at the very entrance you will be greeted by a refrigerated display case with a daily offer of fresh fish. The tavern, of course, also offers some meat dishes, but it is definitely recommended to taste the fish, because that is what they do best. The wine list is short and correct, and the staff young, smiling and very helpful. We started the dinner with a homemade saura in which there was everything a bit, a little squid, frog, shrimp, and it was served with toasted bread coated with tomato and olive oil. We then tasted black noodles with soft squid and shrimp in an aromatic tomato sauce. As a house specialty, the waitress introduced us to rye cooked in olive oil with grilled kale. The rye was delicious, soft and full of flavor, and the kale is prepared in a special way we haven’t had a chance to taste yet. Namely, the embers give it a special taste, and we only have a complaint about maybe a crumb of more salt than necessary. We sweetened up with a great, homemade chestnut cake that, although it looks like it looks heavy, disappears from the plate before you know it. If the road takes you to Rijeka, walk its streets and stop in the cantonment, you will not regret it.
